D.5.4. Basing a Substance dataset on an "Inherit" Template

To base a Substance dataset on one or several Inherit Templates, follow these steps:

  1. Go Home to the Task panel if you are not already there.

  2. Under Substance , click Update. Open the desired Substance dataset. For instructions on how to open and query a Substance, see chapters D.4.3.1 Opening a Substance dataset and D.4.3.2 Querying for a Substance on the Query results pane, respectively.

  3. Click the Section tree tab to display the sections of the Substance dataset.

  4. Click the Plus symbol in front of section 0 Related Information and then double-click 0.1 Templates to navigate to that subsection.

  5. In subsection 0.1 Templates, click the Edit button on the toolbar and create an association to one ore several Inherit Templates by

    • Clicking the Add button;

    • Searching for the Template in the Query dialogue;

    • Selecting the desired Template(s) and clicking the Assign button.

    • Clicking the Save button to confirm.

  6. All Endpoint records are then inserted in the Substance dataset and appear write-protected, with the Edit button being inactive.

Steps 4 - 5 are illustrated in the following screenshot:

The following screenshot shows an example of a Substance dataset which is associated to two Inherit Templates. Two Endpoint study records in section 4.2 Melting point/freezing point have been inherited. Note that the names of these records were named after the Template, thus giving a clue about the source Template right away.

To edit inherited records, you need to open the respective Template.

Either

  1. Go Home to the Task panel.

  2. Under Template , click Update and open the desired Template

or

  1. Open subsection 0.1 Templates from within the Substance dataset.

  2. Click the Edit button on the toolbar.

  3. Click / highlight the desired Template.

  4. Click the Go to link button to navigate to the Template.

For how to dissociate a Substance dataset from an Inherit Template, see chapter D.5.10 Changing / deleting associations to Templates.
